EIA supports strong action on HFCs in New York

Our Comments on the Proposed Regulation

EIA supports New York state’s proposed regulations on super-pollutant HFCs. The proposed rule, called Part 494, is essential to meeting New York’s climate emissions reduction targets and to support its transition away from HFCs. There are widespread, successful uses of alternative refrigerants that protect the climate, and ozone, and offer enhanced energy efficiency. But to scale up these alternatives and cut emissions at the pace needed to fight the climate crisis, we need strong policies. Most importantly, this proposal embodies NY leading the way toward a transition to ultra-low GWP refrigerant alternatives in the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors. This leadership is vital to set the stage for more ambitious nationwide restrictions on HFCs at the federal level.
