Rosewood and the Illegal Logging Crisis in Belize

Severe lack of enforcement both in Belize and among consumer countries, most notably China, threatens to render protection for rosewood in Belize ineffective. Illegal logging of rosewood continues in Belize and EIA is calling on the international community and Central American nations to enforce protection of rosewood. As the world prepares for the CITES Standing Committee meetings next week, EIA is asking the CITES Secretariat to assist the Government of Belize in actively enforcing their obligations under the rosewood Appendix II listing.
